I have seen the lark soar high at morn Heard his song up in the blue I have heard the blackbird pipe his note The thrush and the linnet too But there's none of them can sing so sweet My singing bird as you. If I could lure my singing bird From his own cozy nest If I could catch my singing bird I would warm him on my breast For there's none of them can sing so sweet My singing bird as you.

Twas in the pleasant month of May, In the springtime of the year, And down in yonder meadow There runs a river clear. See how the little fishes, How they do sport and play; Causes many a lad and many a lass To go there a-making hay. Then in comes the scythesman, That meadow to mow down, With his old leathered bottle And the ale that runs so brown. There's many a stout and a laboring man Goes there his skill to try; He works, he mows, he sweats, he blows, And the grass cuts very dry. It was just at one evening As the sun was a-going down, We saw the jolly piper Come a-strolling through the town. There he pulled out his tabor and pipes And he made the valleys ring; So we all put down our rakes and forks And we left off haymaking. We called for a dance And we tripped it along; We danced all round the haycocks Till the rising of the sun. When the sun did shine such a glorious light, How the harmless birds did sing; Each lad he took his lass in hand And went back to his haymaking.

It’s a damn hard life, full of toil and strife we whaler men forgo And we don’t give a damn when the gale is done, how hard the wind did blow We’re homeward bound, ‘tis a grand old sound on the good ship taut and free And we don’t give a damn when we drink our rum with the girls of old Maui Once more we sail with the northerly gale through the ice and sleet and rain And soon the hills of the tropic isles we soon shall see again. Five sluggish moons have waxed and waned on the old Kamchamka sea And now we’re bound from Arctic ground, rolin’ down to old Maui. Rollin’ down to old Maui, me boys Rollin’ down to old Maui, We’re homeward bound from the Arctic ground Rollin’ down to old Maui Our masts and yards are sheathed with ice and our decks are hid from view Our sails are full of the frozen wind that endlessly there blew The hoard tiles of the sea cut ice that deck the Arctic sea Are miles behind in the frozen wind since we steered for old Maui And now we sail with a favorly gale toward our island home Our mail mast sprung, our whaling done and we ain’t got far to roam Our stunsal booms are cared away, what care we for that sound A living gale with after us, thank God we’re homeward bound.

Autumn comes, the summer is past, winter will come too soon, Star will shine clearer, skies seem nearer Under the Harvest Moon Autumn comes, so let us be glad, singing an autumn tune Hearts will be lighter, skies seem brighter Under a Harvest Moon

O bonny Portmore, you shine where you stand And the more I think on you the more I think long If I had you now as I had once before All the lords in Old England would not purchase Portmore. O bonny Portmore, I am sorry to see Such a woeful destruction of your ornament tree For it stood on your shore for many's the long day Till the long boats from Antrim came to float it away. O bonny Portmore, you shine where you stand And the more I think on you the more I think long If I had you now as I had once before All the Lords in Old England would not purchase Portmore. All the birds in the forest they bitterly weep Saying, "Where will we shelter or where will we sleep?" For the Oak and the Ash, they are all cutten down And the walls of bonny Portmore are all down to the ground. O bonny Portmore, you shine where you stand And the more I think on you the more I think long If I had you now as I had once before All the Lords of Old England would not purchase Portmore.

And now my love will you come with me Where the water flows so free And now my love will you come with me Down by the the river bending For we will find no danger there We’ll ease our minds and shed our cares Down the currents run in the setting sun And the long grass bends to the ground For I have often done you wrong Where the water flows so free But now to you I will belong Down by the river bending I will no more tell you lies. Come my love and dry your eyes Down the currents run in the setting sun And the long grass bends to the ground The woods are green and the day is fair Where the water runs so free The robin sings in the clear spring air Down by the river bending Take my hand, I’ll lead you there We’ll ease our minds and shed our cares Down the currents run in the setting sun And the long grass bends to the ground.

about

The Peacocks, consisting of Talitha Peacock (Celtic harp), Rachel Peacock (Celtic harp/flute) and Travis Friesen (vocals/guitar), are a Celtic folk trio based out of Rosebud, Alberta. While the sisters, Talitha and Rachel, have been playing together for the past 12 years, Travis is a new addition to the group, lending his resonant vocals and sensitive guitar stylings to the group’s sound.
In their new album By the River Bending, this trio perform beautiful folk melodies, sparkling with Celtic harp and warm vocals highlighted by flute descants. They breath new freshness into these exquisite songs with their compilation of clean harmonies and flowing rhythms. From the ethereal, soaring quality of “My Singing Bird” to the pulsating rhythm of “Old Maui”, By the River Bending is alive with vibrant arrangements and stunning melodies.
